Terms & Conditions

Welcome to Hangerang! These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of the Hangerang mobile application (“App”) and services provided by Hangerang (“we,” “us,” or “our”). By accessing or using Hangerang, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to use Hangerang. If you are under 18, you must have parental or guardian consent. By creating an account, you confirm that you meet these requirements.

2. Account Registration & Security

  • You must provide accurate information when creating an account, including your real first and last name and a valid phone number.
  • You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.
  • You may not share your account with others or use another person’s account.
  • You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

3. Acceptable Use

Hangerang is a platform for real-world social coordination between people who know each other. You agree to use the App only for its intended purpose and in a manner consistent with all applicable laws.

You agree not to:

  • Use the App for any illegal or unauthorized purpose
  • Post, share, or transmit content that is harmful, threatening, harassing, abusive, defamatory, obscene, or otherwise objectionable Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your identity
  • Use the App to stalk, harass, or intimidate other users
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its infrastructure
  • Use automated tools, bots, or scripts to interact with the App Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the App

4. The Hangocratic Oath

During onboarding, users are invited to take a personal Hangocratic Oath — a commitment to treat themselves and others with respect while using the App. While the Oath is a community tradition rather than a legally binding contract, it reflects the values we expect all users to uphold. Accounts found to be in consistent violation of those values may be suspended or terminated.

5. Location Services

Hangerang uses your location while the App is active to show your mutual contacts that you are nearby and available. Location is shared only with users who are mutual contacts — meaning both you and the other user have each other’s phone number. You can disable location access at any time through your device settings.

6. Contacts Access

Respect other uHangerang requests access to your device contacts solely to identify mutual connections between users. Phone numbers are hashed on your device before transmission and are never stored in readable form on our servers. We do not read, store, or share your contacts’ names or phone numbers.sers.

7. SMS Communications

When you send Props to a friend who is not yet on the App, Hangerang sends an SMS message to that person on your behalf. By initiating a Props invite, you confirm that you have a legitimate personal relationship with the recipient and that sending them an SMS is appropriate. Standard carrier messaging rates may apply to the recipient.

8. Content Ownership and License

  • You retain ownership of any content you create and post on Hangerang, including Itches, Wish You Were Here posts, Props, and messages.
  • By posting content, you grant Hangerang a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide license to display and distribute your content within the App for the purpose of operating the service.
  • This license ends when you delete the content or your account.
  • We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these Terms or our Community Guidelines without notice.

9. Community Guidelines

Hangerang is built on real relationships and mutual respect. All users are expected to:

  • Treat other users with kindness and respect
  • Not engage in harassment, hate speech, threats, or discrimination of any kind
  • Not post false, misleading, or deceptive content
  • Not use the Ghost feature to retaliate against or intimidate other users
  • Honor the spirit of the Hangocratic Oath

Violations of these guidelines may result in content removal, account suspension, or permanent termination at our sole discretion.

10. Privacy

Your use of Hangerang is governed by our Privacy Policy, available at https://hangerang.com/privacy-policy. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described there.

11. Third-Party Services

Hangerang uses third-party services to operate, including Supabase (database and authentication), Expo (push notifications), Google Maps (location features), and Firebase (messaging). Your use of the App is subject to the terms and policies of these providers where applicable.

12. Termination

We reserve the right to suspend or permanently terminate your access to Hangerang at any time, with or without notice, if you violate these Terms or engage in behavior harmful to other users or the platform. You may also delete your account at any time through the Settings screen in the App. Upon deletion, your data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

13. Disclaimers

Hangerang is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee:

  • That the App will be available at all times or free of errors
  • That connections or Hangs will result from your use of the App
  • That content posted by other users is accurate, safe, or appropriate

Your use of the App and any interactions with other users are at your own risk. Hangerang is a coordination tool — we are not responsible for the conduct of users in real-world interactions.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Hangerang and its owners, employees, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Our total liability to you for any claims arising from your use of the App shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (if any).

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Mexico, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these Terms or your use of the App shall be resolved in the courts located in Bernalillo County, New Mexico.

16. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you via the App or by email. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
